Come and work with our Discovery & Learning Team, as an Education Officer, as we head into our most exciting season yet!

We are looking for enthusiastic people with excellent communication skills to help create the best possible experience for our visitors as they explore the Zoo at Emerald Park!

The key role of our education officer will be to help in facilitating secondary & primary school field trips, promoting conservation and sustainability, while delivering the highest level of customer service.

Our team is dedicated to enriching the students understanding of wildlife, conservation, and the natural world through our educational packages.

Role & responsibilities

As an education officer in our Discovery & Learning Department, you will play a key role in creating positive interaction between our students and curriculum-based packages. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering classroom-based presentations.
  • Leading secondary school ecology fieldwork.
  • Lead interactive tours for diverse groups of students; customise tours to cater for all different age groups.
  • Participating in zoo event days.
  • Adhering to strict time management as guides escort teachers and students around the park.
  • Encourage questions and facilitate discussion to enhance student learning and interaction.
  • Assist teachers with enquiries, directions, and general information about the park.
  • Ensure the safety of students by adhering to safety guidelines and protocols within the park.

Areas of work

  • Education centre & education field.
  • Participate in zoo event days.
  • Support table-top activities throughout the zoo.
  • Assist with delivering of public zoo talks.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of wildlife ecology as well as an enthusiastic interest in conservation and sustainability.
  • It is essential that the successful candidate is a confident communicator.
  • This is a seasonal contract position. Estimated start date April 15th. Contracts may be extended.

Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A good knowledge of ecology, conservation, animals, and wildlife, with a keen interest to gain more knowledge.
  • Experience teaching/demonstrating ecology fieldwork.
  • Prior experience working or volunteering with young people is desired.
  • Exceptional communication skills to engage effectively with guests and team members.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and go that extra mile.
  • Desired: a qualification in biological science or similar.
  • Desired: competency in spoken Irish.
