Emerald Park Zoo is seeking a skilled and proactive Zookeeper to join our dedicated animal care team. We are seeking a Zookeeper to be responsible for the daily care, welfare, and enrichment of our domestic hoof stock, birds, and small carnivores. This hands-on role involves daily section operations, visitor engagement, educational talks, and digital record-keeping.

Duties & responsibilitie

• Routine cleaning, sanitisation, and maintenance of animal enclosures.

• Preparation and distribution of animal diets.

• Monitoring and reporting physiological and behavioural changes in the animals.

• Routine husbandry tasks, handling, and training animals (domestic stock, birds, and small carnivores).

• Engaging with guests, delivering educational talks, and promoting conservation.

• Supporting or participating in free-flying Birds of Prey public displays during operational periods.

• Maintaining communal zookeeper areas and completing basic enclosure maintenance within safety guidelines.

• Logging daily section records on ZIMS and Forms (Microsoft Teams).

Working Condition

• Rotating roster with a variable number of weekends per year.

• 21 days annual leave, and days in lieu of bank holiday days.

• Salary €31,475 per year.

Minimum experience requirements

5+ years paid experience working in an accredited zoological collection or animal facility.

Preferred experience requirements

• Working as part of diverse teams.

• Working with domestic hoof stock.

• Delivering live public presentations/displays (Desirable).

Minimum education requirements

Completion of or willingness to complete DMZAA (or equivalent qualification) within the first two years of working at Emerald Park is compulsory.

Preferred education requirements

Has already completed DMZAA or equivalent qualification.

Required skills

• Full driving license (manual preferred).

• Efficient time management skills and excellent communication skills.

• Commitment to professional workplace communication.

Physical requirements

  • High levels of physical activity, strength, stamina, and/or endurance are required for this job in all weather conditions.
